Sanusi Haliru, a student affairs officer at the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic Talata-Mafara in Zamfara State, was assassinated by suspected bandits after they had demanded an N4 million ransom from his family.

On his route to an Abuja pre-NYSC mobilization training, Haliru was kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna Road.

His captors requested an N4 million ransom, but at the moment, there was no money to pay it.

Mohammed Nasir's relative claimed that after raising the N4 million, the family called the bandits and inquired about the location of the ransom payment.

Their leader pointed out a certain location and assured us that someone would be waiting to accept the payment there.

"We could not see anyone when we arrived at that location.

"Then, out of nowhere, we spotted some people riding a motorcycle heading our way, and as soon as they arrived, they demanded that we produce the money.

"After giving them our money, one of them informed us that our brother had passed away.

To our dismay, they informed us that he had passed away a long time ago and that his remains had been buried. We had demanded the dead body so that we could arrange his funeral prayers.

They left us in a difficult situation and went to their hiding place, Nasir continued.
