Buhari congratulates Adeleke on electoral victory

Senator Ademola Adeleke has been congratulated by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired), for winning the 2022 Osun governorship election.

The President sent a congratulations message via his official Twitter account hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday.

He wrote: "I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, on his victory in the Osun governorship election.

"The Osun people have made their wishes known through the voting process. Respect for the people's will is at the heart of democracy.

The smooth operation of #OsunDecides2022 is evidence of the maturity and dedication of all stakeholders to enhancing the credibility of Nigeria's election process, he continued.

Additionally, the President pledged to "leave a legacy of credible elections in Nigeria."

In a hotly contested campaign, Adeleke defeated incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress with a total of 403,371 votes, according to Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the returning officer for the election and vice chancellor of the University of Lagos.

The PDP won 17 of the state's 30 local government areas, while the APC took 13 of them, according to the total votes tallied by the electoral umpire.
